The Al-Wayili Criminal Court sentenced on Monday an officer and eight police secretaries from al-Wayili department to three years in prison for beating a citizen during his arrest.

The case dates backs to May 2016, when police stormed the workshop of the victim, Hussein Farghali, to arrest him because of a land disagreement.

The accused beat the victims using sticks in front of 10 eyewitnesses.

After his arrival at Al-Wayili police station, Farghali was beaten again and tortured and then taken to hospital. The medical report proved that the victim arrived in hospital after he died, according to the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights.

The Criminal Court began its proceedings on the case in April 2018.
