Egyptian authorities have deported the Palestinian writer Besan Edwan, who has been living for years in Egypt, and refused to renew her residence. Lawyer Khaled Ali said Besan went to the police station a week ago to renew her residency. Egyptian authorities refused to renew it and she was deported to Palestine. Besan was supporting her sick mother who lives with her and her mother is now alone. After she was deported Besan wrote on Facebook that she had nothing to do with politics and would work to return to Egypt, the country where she grew up and was in the process of establishing a major publishing house. Besan stayed in the police station for seven days before the Egyptian authorities refused to renew her stay. Accordingly, she was deported, according to lawyer Khaled Ali.
