Neama Hisham, the wife of the arrested lawyer Muhammad al-Baqir, has published a letter he wrote inside Scorpion Prison.

In the message al-Baqir assured his family of his conditions and health, and expressed his concern and fear for his elderly mother in the face of coronavirus and said that he hoped that he would be released as soon as possible. Al-Baqir was arrested last September from the Supreme State Security Prosecution in the Fifth Settlement, while attending the investigation of the activist and his client, Alaa Abdel Fattah. He was included in the same case in which Abdel Fattah was accused, of belonging to a terrorist group and spreading false news, and they were imprisoned together in Scorpion Prison.

Al-Baqir is a businessman who decided in 2014 to liquidate his company to devote himself to human right activities. He became one of the most important human rights lawyers in Egypt, and the lawyer for the most famous political opponents in Egypt who were arrested by the Sisi regime. Al-Baqir established the Adalah Centre for Rights and Freedoms with a group of human rights lawyers to provide legal support through programmes, namely the Criminal Justice Programme, the Right to Education and Student Rights Programme, and the Refugee Rights Programme.
