The Egyptian army spokesman has announced that two officers and eight soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack in the city of Bir al-Abd in Sinai. The victims were travelling in an armoured vehicle near the village of Tuffaha in Bir al-Abed, before it was blown up by an explosive device planted by an armed terrorist group affiliated with the Sinai Province, the local ISIS affiliate. Egypt has struggled to contain an insurgency in North Sinai that escalated after the military coup in 2013.

A series of bloody attacks have taken place in North Sinai since the beginning of the year, killing and wounding dozens of soldiers, in addition to an attack on the Egypt-Israel gas pipeline earlier this month.
