The Egyptian foreign ministry announced, on Wednesday, the agreement with Doha to resume diplomatic relations between the two countries. “In connection with the executive steps regarding the mutual obligations mentioned in the al-Ula statement, the Arab Republic of Egypt exchanged, on 20 January, two official memorandums with Qatar,” said the ministry in a brief press release on Facebook. “The two states agreed, according to the memorandums, to resume their diplomatic relationships,” the statement added.
Earlier, Egypt decided to open its airspace for Qatar aviation, on 12January, in accordance with the Arab reconciliation signed between the Arab quartet states and Qatar during the summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council in al-Ula. Last Monday, the first EgyptAir flight departed from Cairo to Doha after three and half years of cessation. Additionally, EgyptAir announced a daily flight to Doha starting from 18January with a 20 per cent sale on the tickets until 10 February. The latest steps came to confirm the seriousness of different parties regarding the execution of the al-Ula statement accords.
