The Egyptian Minister of Health Hala Zayed said that the rate of weekly infections recorded during the current epidemiological week rose to 5,845 cases, compared to 1,248 cases in the same epidemic week of last year.

She added during the cabinet meeting that this is almost a five-fold increase, noting at the same time that the governorates of Cairo, Giza, Minya, Fayoum, and Sohag are the five highest governorates in terms of the number of infections.

Egypt recorded 1,003 new cases of coronavirus and 61 deaths on Tuesday, up from 991 cases and 58 deaths on Monday. This is the first time that Egypt’s infection with the virus had exceeded the 1,000 mark since January 8, when it detected 1,001 cases.

Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly stressed the need to continue applying various preventive measures to deal with the coronavirus, especially during this stage, which is witnessing an accelerating increase in the number of infected people. Madbouly directed all the ministries and relevant authorities to take the necessary measures to prevent any celebrations or mass events, with the need to deal decisively with the markets and cafes that violate the implementation of the precautionary decisions and to close them immediately.

In the same context, Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj Al-Din, Sisi’s advisor, warned citizens not to adhere to the restrictions taken to prevent the outbreak of the coronavirus. He stressed that if the people did not adhere to the measures, the state would be forced to close.
