Libya’s foreign ministry summoned the charge d’affairs of the Egyptian embassy in Tripoli over recent statements made on state TV which Libyan Foreign Ministry considered breached the Libyan national government and sovereignty. The statements were made by the Egyptian media figure, Amr Adib, in his TV show Al Hekaya (The Story) on MBC Masr TV: “Ukraine for Russia is like Libya for Egypt.”

The statement was repeated when Adib hosted his brother, the political critic, Emadeddin Adib, who said, “If we imagined that a country put a military alliance or rockets on your border, then we are not going to be just watchers,” then Amr replied, “like our borders with Libya.” The Egyptian charge d’affairs replied that the statements do not represent the Egyptian government.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said all media outlets work in Egypt with full freedom according to their points of view, while the official line is expressed only via official statements. The statement also highlighted the close relationship between Egypt and Libya and the Egyptian commitment to the preservation of Libya’s unity and sovereignty.
