The Israel in Egypt Facebook page, affiliated with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that Israel and Egypt had agreed to launch a new direct flight route between Tel Aviv and Sharm El-Sheikh, to expand direct flights between the two countries. The agreement means the launch of a flight route from Ben Gurion International Airport to the tourist city of Sharm el-Sheikh, and flights are expected to start operating next month. “It is another step in the warming of the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty,” said Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
A statement by the Israeli government stated that agreement on this step was made during the meeting that brought together Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Sharm El-Sheikh last September. It was an encounter that Bennett described at the time as very important and very good.
The Israel in Egypt page revealed that meetings took place over the past few days in Cairo between leaders of the Israeli General Security Service, the Shin Bet, the National Security Authority of the Egyptian General Intelligence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The first EgyptAir plane arrived at Ben Gurion International Airport in October on a direct flight from Cairo to Tel Aviv.
