A human rights lawyer and former presidential candidate, Khaled Ali, said his office submitted a request to retrial former presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh in Case No. 1059 of 2021 State Security Emergency Felonies based on what was mentioned in some of the leaks broadcast in the Choice series.

Ali explained, in a statement, he posted on his Facebook page, that the Third Part of the Choice showed recordings in which Aboul Fotouh talks about his position on the Muslim Brotherhood in a way that shows the radical difference between him and the group and the absence of any organizational relationship between him and its leaders.

On March 13, 2022, the Emergency Supreme State Security Criminal Court decided to postpone the hearing in the case of Aboul Fotouh, his deputy, Muhammad al-Qassas, and the acting General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mahmoud Ezzat until May 29. The defendants in the case face charges of assuming leadership of a terrorist group and financing a terrorist group, possession of weapons and ammunition, promoting the ideas of a terrorist group, and deliberately broadcasting false news, statements and rumours at home and abroad.

Aboul Fotouh, 70, was arrested on February 14, 2018, days after his return from London and his appearance in media interviews. He criticized the Egyptian authorities and President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
