Clashes on Al-Warraq Island between the Egyptian police and the residents

As part of the government’s continuous attempts to evacuate and displace its people, the security forces stormed Al-Warraq Island, Giza. They clashed with the residents using bullets to disperse them. Dozens of residents accused the security forces of committing violations against them, calling on human rights organizations to document what was happening to them.

The police have been storming the island from time to time for five years. Residents said this time. The police came with more personnel and armoured vehicles. Security forces also removed the island from the rest of the city and closed its post office and only governmental hospital. Residents said that the government intends to displace the residents and give their island to investors to build tourism projects on it.
