Human rights groups have said that detainee Shahat Abdel Azim Ibrahim died inside the medical centre in Wadi al-Natrun prison after his health deteriorated due to medical negligence.

The Egyptian Network for Human Rights said that Ibrahim’s health deteriorated due to a lack of access to proper health care, which led to him falling into a coma and then dying. Security forces arrested Ibrahim in January 2021.

Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights accused the Ministry of Interior of neglecting Ibrahim’s health and subjecting him to stress and torture. Ibrahim is the fifth death in prison this July and the 19th case since the beginning of 2022.
