On Friday, an army officer was killed in an attack by the ISIS-affiliated Sinai Province organization in North Sinai. Military sources said that Captain Muhammad Yasser Youssef was killed in a terrorist attack on an army force west of the city of Bir al-Abd, which is witnessing a large-scale military operation against the Sinai Province organization. They added that the attack also wounded individuals who took to Al-Arish Military Hospital.
The Egyptian Armed Forces have lost thousands of its officers and soldiers during the last decade as a result of the war with the group. Tribal groups supporting the army have also lost dozens of their members. Military operations have failed to eliminate the terrorist organization, despite security cooperation between the Egyptian and Israeli armies.
