On Thursday, the Center for Trade Union & Workers Services criticized the draft labour law currently being discussed in the House of Representatives, stressing that it does not keep pace with developments in the labour market and does not solve the problems of the current legislation, including irregular employment. The rights group added that wages and bonuses should be linked to inflation rates. It also suggested setting controls to protect irregular employment. Former Minister of Manpower Ahmed El-Borai has said that the time is not suitable to pass legislation of this importance due to “the severe turmoil in the labour market.” Also, members of the House of Representatives, including Mohamed Anwar Sadat, Ihab Mansour, and Kamal Abbas, have called for amendments to the draft labour law. They also called for the participation of trade unions in the discussion process of the draft law.
