An Egyptian army officer was killed and four soldiers wounded in South Sinai

On Tuesday, an Egyptian army officer was killed, and four soldiers were wounded in an attack by Islamic State – Sinai Province militants in South Sinai.

The spokesman for the Egyptian Armed Forces did not issue any statements about the attack. At the same time, ISIS-affiliated channels reported the news, confirming that its branch in Egypt, the Sinai Province, was behind the attack. The attack coincided with the Egyptian government announcing the end of terrorist acts in Sinai and the return to everyday life.

The Egyptian Armed Forces lost thousands of its officers and soldiers during the last decade due to the war with the terrorist group. Tribal groups supporting the army also lost dozens of their members. Military operations failed to eliminate the terrorist organization, despite security cooperation between the Egyptian and Israeli armies.
