The cabinet decided to implement a total curfew on Monday for the Easter holiday which includes the complete closure of shops and commercial centres, stopping all public transportation including metro services, river transport and tour buses between all cities and governorates.

Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly said that public parks and beaches in all governorates will also be closed, with the aim of preventing gatherings of citizens throughout the day, noting that roads leading to tourist resorts will also be closed starting from six in the morning on Sunday, for 48 hours. Madbouly said, “The heavy crowds in the streets and markets of the past few days are cause for concern, and citizens must adhere to the precautionary measures and pay attention to their movements in the streets to avoid the spread of infection.”

The streets, markets, and transportation were overcrowded last week, especially after al-Sisi’s statement, in which he said that losses from the economic shutdown are greater than the losses from corona infections. Egypt has confirmed 2,844 cases and 205 deaths.
