The Egyptian House of Representatives agreed on Monday to send soldiers of the Egyptian armed forces on combat missions outside the country’s borders (Libya). The approval came “unanimously by the parliament members present” in the secret session attended by 510 deputies of the House, according to local media reports.

Speaker of the House Ali Abdel Aal explained that the session was intended to agree to send soldiers of the Egyptian armed forces on combat missions outside the borders of the Egyptian state, to defend Egyptian national security in the western strategic direction (Libya) against the actions of armed criminal militias and foreign terrorists.

Al-Sisi’s regime supports Libyan General Khalifa Haftar, but Haftar’s forces suffered heavy defeats recently at the hands of the internationally recognised Government of National Accord forces, which led al-Sisi to threaten direct military intervention to confront the government supported by Turkey, the regional enemy of the Egyptian regime.
