Renaissance Dam negotiations resume today

Sudan reaffirmed the resumption of the negotiations between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia on Tuesday, on the rules for filling and operating the Renaissance Dam of Ethiopia, after a meeting of the foreign and irrigation ministers of the three countries.

The meeting is expected to discuss the negotiation agenda, general frameworks, and observations of the three parties, with the participation of the African Union, international experts, and observers through video conference.

In a speech to the meeting held on Sunday, Sudan demanded the necessity of returning to the schedule set out by the declaration of the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, and the experts’ report submitted to the mini-African summit last July.Sudan stressed the principles of international law regarding the fair use of water resources without harming others. Negotiations between the three countries have faltered over the past years, amid mutual accusations between Cairo and Addis Ababa of intransigence and a desire to impose unrealistic solutions.
