WHO calls on Egypt to revise COVID-19 data

The World Health Organisation has called on Egypt to revise officially announced data of numbers of infections and deaths due to COVID-19 in Egypt.

“The numbers of COVID-19 patients and deaths issued by the Egyptian ministry of health needs to be revised,” said Dr Rana Hajjeh, Director of Programme Management in WHO regional office for the Eastern Mediterranean, in a call with DMC TV, on Wednesday. Hajjeh added that the true data should include the number of tests done, and if those tests were done in the central laboratories of the ministry of health only or all the tests done including in private laboratories. Hajjeh’s statements came after the clear sharp rise in the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in Egypt with the data of the ministry omitting this clear rise.

Earlier, BBC Arabic reported a sharp rise in the number of deaths in Egypt without a clear cause other than COVID-19. The report revealed the falsity of the official data, especially with statements made by Hala Zayed, the minister of health, that Egypt does not conduct tests for all suspected patients, which means that thousands of cases are missed and dropped from the official data.
