State Security Prosecution orders the imprisonment of a young man who photographed a presidential palace under construction
State Security Prosecution has charged a young man named Karim Safwat with joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and misusing social media. He has decided to imprison him for 15 days pending investigations.
Police arrested Safwat (20 years old) as soon as he finished taking pictures of a presidential palace under construction in the New Administrative Capital.
Safwat’s older brother, Tariq Safwat, who owns a contracting company that conducts business in the controversial new capital, said that his brother was accompanying him to help with work, which was why he was present in the presidential palace garden. He added that his brother was detained for two days and then taken to an unknown destination until he appeared before the State Security Prosecution. Safwat has not posted any of the photos online, according to his brother. He also has no political affiliation.
