Two coronavirus infections in Tora Prison

The Egyptian Front for Rights and Freedoms has published a report in which it said that it knew from its sources that there were two coronavirus infections in Tora Prison where thousands of political opponents and criminal prisoners are being held. The report said that many political prisoners have started a hunger strike because of fears of the spread of the virus. They are demanding their release, especially the suspects pending investigation. The report said that two prisoners had been taken to the hospital suspected of being infected with the virus but the prison has not told prisoners the results. This comes at the same time as appeals are being made by several prisoners’ families and human rights organisations to release political detainees over fears of the spread of coronavirus.
