No new governmental jobs for third year in a row

The Ministry of Finance announced that it would not include an allowance for the appointment of new employees in the state’s administrative bodies within the draft budget for the new fiscal year 2020/ 2021. The ministry said there would be no appointments into state bodies until July 2021 at the lowest level, with the exception of employing doctors and nurses in public hospitals. It also noted the prohibition of appointment through the contract system except in cases of necessity – where it is permissible to contract experts in rare specialties with the approval of the Prime Minister – for a period not exceeding three years.

Egypt aims to reduce the number of employees in government agencies to four million by 2023 instead of the current six million.
