Egypt authorities detain director of website supportive of Mubarak

July 11, 2019

The Egyptian State Security Prosecution on Wednesday ordered the detention of Karim Hussein, director of the “Asef ya Rayes” (Sorry my President) website which supports former President Hosni Mubarak, for 15 days.

The prosecution has accused Mubarak’s top supporters of publishing false news, misusing social networking sites and joining a terrorist group.

The Asef ya Rayes site issued a statement on the details of the arrest of Karim Hussein and his position on the ruling political system. The page declared its full confidence in the national security authorities and described them as “wise.”

The Asef ya Rayes page is a campaign launched by former supporters of President Hosni Mubarak after the January 25 revolution, expressing regret at his overthrow.

The Asef ya Rayes page, which is followed by almost 3 million people, celebrated Mubarak’s birthday on May 4.
