86 per cent of September detainees remain in detention

On Wednesday, the Egyptian Commission for Human Rights issued an inventory of the number of detainees arrested by the Egyptian authorities in connection with the call to demonstrate on 20 and 27 September.

The number of detainees has reached 2,741, of which 2,348 are still in custody, representing 86 per cent of the total of those arrested.

The Egyptian Commission also said that 117 people had been disappeared after their arrest by the police, while roughly 474 people disappeared in the same period.

The Census of the Egyptian Centre for Economic and Social Rights was slightly different, with the number of detainees in the same period amounting to 2,940, of whom 2,704 are still in custody.
