Detention of former justice minister renewed despite release order

Despite a decision that he be released four days ago, the State Security Prosecutor has imprisoned the Morsi-era Justice Minister Ahmed Suleiman for 15 days pending investigation.

The son of the former justice minister said that his father is suffering from unstable health conditions, and despite an investigation into his low blood sugar level he was returned to prison and not to the hospital. Sulemain said this highlights clear and blatant intransigence towards his father despite the court’s acquittal, and despite his age, stressing that his family is concerned for his poor health.

The Giza Criminal Court had ruled in favour of the decision to release Ahmed Suleiman on Thursday on precautionary measures after accusing him of joining a banned group and broadcasting and spreading false news.
