Egypt: 170 health care workers infected with Coronavirus

The number of health care workers infected with the new Coronavirus has increased to more than 170 cases according to official statistics from the Ministry of Health, while the Medical Syndicate today announced the death of a psychiatric consultant at the Abbasiya Hospital after being infected with the virus.

The Ministry of Health has officially announced the closure of the Al-Zaytoun Specialist Hospital, after the discovery of 22 cases among medical staff that had been infected with the virus. In Dakahlia, the chest Hospital in Dekernes was also closed after confirming that 21 medical staff members were infected. It was decided to place 105 individuals, the rest of the hospital staff, under quarantine in the university city of Mansoura.

During this week alone, Egypt witnessed the infection of 26 medical staff at the National Cancer Institute, in addition to 5 cases at the Dar Al Salam Oncology Center, and 4 cases in Magdi Yaqoub Heart Center in Aswan, and other cases in university hospitals of Ain Shams and Al Azahr, and The National Heart Institute.

The infection control committee of Cairo University Hospitals decided to close two units, one of them is the Sherif Mokhtar unit for critical cases in Kasr Al Aini Hospital, for three days for sterilization, after a doctor working in the two units was found to be infected with the Coronavirus.

WHO expressed its concern about the increasing number of health care workers infected with Coronavirus in Egypt, which has reached 10% of the total number of people infected with the virus.
