The Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed acknowledged a continuous rise in corona infections throughout the country in recent weeks. Hala described the increase ratio as slight but continuous. She confirmed “recording a weekly increase of up to 10 per cent in some areas amid a third wave of the epidemic.” She did not provide statistics. She explained that “the ministry provided large numbers” of intensive care units and ventilators to the governorates, where the number of cases increased. She urged citizens to adhere to preventive standards and receive the corona vaccine and said: “Only 50 per cent of the targeted health care workers registered to receive the vaccine.”
With a population of 100 million, Egypt has recorded more than 220,650 confirmed cases and 12,959 deaths. But the officially announced numbers are much lower than the numbers of real infections and deaths, Egyptian officials have admitted this several times.
The recognition of the Egyptian Minister of Health comes at the same time the American Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that Egypt is in the fourth level of the coronavirus. This “very High Level of COVID-19 in Egypt” means travellers should avoid all travel to Egypt.
Because of the current situation in Egypt, even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk of getting and spreading COVID-19 variants and should avoid all travel to Egypt. If you must travel to Egypt, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travellers should wear a mask, stay six feet from others, avoid crowds, and wash their hands.
