Political activist Mohamed Adel kept in pretrial detention for a new case

On Saturday, Egyptian political activist Mohamed Adel was referred for investigation on terrorism-related charges. Lawyer Nabih Al-Janadi said that the first session of Adel’s trial would be in April. Adel is one of the founders of the April 6 Movement and a member of the Kefaya Movement.

The past ten years have witnessed the investigation and trial of Adel in multiple cases. In December 2013, he was sentenced to three years in prison and three years of probation on charges of violating the Protest Law and assaulting police forces. He was arrested once more while on probation and added to a new case, from which he was freed on bail of 10,000 pounds on January 27, 2021. However, the decision to free him was not put into effect since he was quickly added to another case.
