Well-known doctor detained for criticizing Abdel Fattah al-Sisi

Hani Suleiman, a doctor and lecturer, was arrested for 15 days by the Egyptian State Security Prosecution after they accused him of distributing false information and associating with a terrorist organization. On March 27, security personnel arrested Suleiman after he posted a criticism of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on his Facebook page.

According to the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms, the prosecution accused Suleiman of many offenses, including affiliating with a terrorist organization, as a result of his criticism of the political and economic climate of the nation. According to Abu al-Ela Madi, the leader of the Egyptian al-Wasat Party, Suleiman was detained after he inquired about President al-Sisi’s family expenses and the jewellery collection of his wife and daughter.

Suleiman, a marketing consultant and the former Strategic Planning Directorate of Pfizer Middle East, is 67 years old and served in the Egyptian government as a hospital development expert.
