Mona Seif, sister of the political activist and blogger Alaa Abdel Fattah, revealed, in a Facebook video post, that his brother had reported to the judge in Cairo Criminal Court during his trial that he heard screams of other detainees in the high security Scorpion 2 Prison, while they were being tortured by electric shock.

Mona added that her family filed a report to the attorney general demanding he investigate the incident and mentioned that the family had demanded the attorney general investigate ten incidents previously with no response.

The incidents include assaulting Alaa physically and verbally on his arrival to the prison in September 2019, and assaulting Mona, her sister Sanaa, and their mother Laila Suef, Professor of Natural Sciences in Cairo University, while they were in front of the Tora Prisons Complex on 22 June 2020, and “kidnapping” Sanaa from in front of the attorney general’s office on 24 June 2020. Alaa Abdel Fattah is now on remand over case 1356 of year 2019.
