Egypt increases financial allocations to parliament

The Egyptian parliament’s Plan and Budget Committee has approved the final accounts of the parliament’s budget for the past fiscal year 2018-2019, with a total of EGP 1.4 billion ($89.4 million), an increase of EGP 48 million ($3.1 million), over the specific budget of EGP 1 billion ($63.9 million) and EGP 400 million ($25.5 million).

The committee decided to increase the parliament’s budget to EGP 1.75 billion ($111.7 million) in the next fiscal year 2020-2021, an increase of EGP 200 million ($12.8 million) for the current year, with the aim of raising financial allowances for deputies from attending the plenary and specific committees meetings.

Parliament sessions are held over a period of three days every two weeks, but most members do not attend and leave the council after they sign to attend the beginning of the session.
