Train accident in Matrouh injures 38

The Ministry of Health and Population has announced that 38 citizens were injured with two in a critical condition when a train derailed on its way from Alexandria to Matrouh. The railway authority said in a statement: “Train No. 654 coming from Alexandria in the direction of Matrouh was turned over in the area between the city of Dabaa and the city of el-Alamein, due to a technical defect in the bars, according to preliminary investigations.”

It is reported that about 6,000 Egyptians were killed and more than 21,000 injured as a result of train accidents during the past 10 years. Egypt is one of the 10 worst countries in the world for train accidents that lead to death.
