Prominent blogger Abdo Fayed appears in SSSP after several days forced disappearance

The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided, on Sunday, to put Abdo Fayed, a prominent blogger and political researcher, on parole for 15 days pending investigations in case no. 535/year 2020, accusing him of publishing false news and belonging to a terrorist group.

Fayed was arrested on May 26 and detained in a station for central security forces in Cairo. He was questioned about his Facebook posts, which criticise the authorities’ handling of the coronavirus pandemic, and particularly the medical negligence of infected doctors compared to the special care provided to an elderly Egyptian actress.

Case no. 535/year 2020 includes, besides Fayed, the journalist Shaimaa Samy, the activist Nermin Hussein, the well-known activist Laila Souief and Doctor Ibrahim Bedaiwy. All of them have been accused of the same charges.
