Victim no. 71: Detainee Muhammad al-Sagheer dies from medical negligence

A new political prisoner has died inside Egyptian prisons due to the deliberate medical negligence policy pursued by the Abdel Fattah al-Sisi regime. This brings the number of victims in Egyptian prisons to 71 detainees since the beginning of this year.

According to human rights sources, the new victim is businessman Medhat Muhammad al-Sagheer (41 years), who has been detained in Scorpion Prison since 2015, after he was sentenced to five years in prison.

We Record human rights platform reported that the detainee died as a result of medical negligence, after his imprisonment in the case known in the media as “filming Belbeis Air Force Base,” adding that the detainee was suffering from several illnesses.

The rights platform indicated that the prison administration had previously refused to transfer the victim to the hospital to receive appropriate treatment, despite asking the military court to authorise his treatment.
